17–19 July 2026 | Stadium Area Constituency No. 32
For three inspiring days, from 17 to 19 July 2026, Stadium Area Constituency was transformed into a place of hope, teamwork, and opportunity as more than 350 children from all 10 branches came together to participate in the Hon. Mampho Tjabane Youth Development Games.
The tournament featured football, netball, chess, and table tennis, providing children and young people with a safe, inclusive, and exciting environment to compete, learn, build friendships, and discover their talents.
However, the Games were about far more than winning medals or trophies. They were about investing in the future of our children and demonstrating that sport can be a powerful tool for building stronger families, safer communities, and brighter futures.
Why the Games Were Established
The Hon. Mampho Tjabane Youth Development Games were founded in response to the growing social challenges affecting young people within Stadium Area Constituency.
Crime, substance abuse, school dropout, and teenage pregnancy continue to threaten the wellbeing and future of many children. One of the most concerning realities facing our community is that a significant number of inmates in correctional facilities come from Stadium Area. This is a reminder that meaningful change begins long before someone enters the criminal justice system.
Recognising this, the initiative was established to provide children with positive alternatives through organised sport, mentorship, leadership development, and community engagement. The vision is simple: every child deserves the opportunity to grow in a safe environment, discover their talents, develop confidence, and become a responsible citizen.
Sport teaches discipline, teamwork, perseverance, respect, and leadership—qualities that help young people make positive life choices and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
Three Days of Competition, Learning and Unity
Throughout the tournament, children participated enthusiastically in football, netball, chess, and table tennis, displaying determination, sportsmanship, and mutual respect.
The Games brought together families, coaches, volunteers, educators, community leaders, and public institutions, creating an atmosphere of unity and shared responsibility for youth development.
The event also formed part of the celebrations marking the birthday of His Majesty King Letsie III, reinforcing the values of patriotism, community service, and national unity.
Beyond the sporting activities, the tournament encouraged healthy lifestyles, friendship, resilience, and positive community engagement, reminding every participant that success is built through dedication, respect, and teamwork.
A Community Working Together
The success of the Hon. Mampho Tjabane Youth Development Games reflects the power of collaboration.
We extend our sincere appreciation to every organisation, institution, volunteer, parent, coach, and community member who contributed to making the tournament a success.
Special appreciation goes to:
- SAILERI (Stadium Area Integrated Livelihood and Environmental Restoration Initiative) for coordinating community partnerships and supporting youth development initiatives.
- The Hon. Mampho Tjabane Constituency Office for its leadership and continued commitment to empowering young people.
- CCROA.
- International Youth Fellowship (IYF).
- The Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS).
- The Lesotho Correctional Service.
- Maseru City Council.
- Local chiefs and community leaders.
- Participating schools from across Stadium Area.
- Coaches, referees, volunteers, parents, and all community members who dedicated their time and resources to the success of the event.
The Games demonstrated what is possible when government institutions, civil society organisations, community leaders, families, and development partners unite around a common purpose: creating opportunities that allow children to thrive.
Looking Ahead: December 2026
Building on the success of the July tournament, preparations have already begun for the Hon. Mampho Tjabane Youth Sports and Development Festival, which will take place in December 2026.
The Festival will expand on the achievements of the Youth Development Games by introducing additional sporting activities, including a Youth Cycling Development Programme, alongside football, netball, chess, and table tennis.
The Festival will also incorporate leadership development, health and wellness education, environmental stewardship, entrepreneurship, career guidance, and mentorship, ensuring that young people benefit from a holistic development programme rather than a sporting event alone.
The programme will continue to be coordinated by SAILERI, working closely with the Hon. Mampho Tjabane Constituency Office, community leaders, educational institutions, government departments, sports organisations, and development partners.
Get Involved
The future of our children is a shared responsibility.
We invite businesses, sports federations, schools, government institutions, community organisations, development partners, and individuals to become part of this growing movement.
You can support the Festival by donating sporting equipment such as footballs, netballs, chess sets, table tennis tables and equipment, sports kits, cones, bibs, whistles, medals, trophies, bicycles, cycling helmets, first aid supplies, drinking water, and other resources that will directly benefit children and young people.
Volunteers are also welcome to contribute as coaches, referees, mentors, health professionals, event officials, or youth development facilitators.
Every football donated, every chess board provided, every bicycle contributed, and every hour volunteered creates opportunities that help keep children away from crime, substance abuse, and other social challenges while nurturing their talents and ambitions.
Together, we can build a generation of young people who are healthy, disciplined, confident, and equipped to lead.
The Hon. Mampho Tjabane Youth Development Games are more than a tournament—they are a commitment to giving every child in Stadium Area the opportunity to dream, grow, and succeed. Together, let us continue investing in our children and building a stronger, safer, and more prosperous community for generations to come.
