Society to unite in crime prevention

HON. TJABANE URGES SOCIETY TO UNITE IN CRIME PREVENTION

By: The Office of Hon. Mampho Tjabane, MP - Stadium Area

Hon. Mampho Tjabane has called on communities, parents, and stakeholders across Stadium Area to unite and take collective responsibility in the fight against crime.

Speaking during a community engagement, Hon. Tjabane emphasized that crime prevention cannot be left to the police alone. She said every citizen has a role to play in building safe and peaceful neighborhoods.

THE ROOT CAUSES

Hon. Tjabane noted that many young people are falling into crime due to challenges such as unemployment, family conflicts, peer pressure, and drug and substance abuse.

_“When our youth are idle and hopeless, they become vulnerable. When families are broken, our communities become unsafe. We must address these root causes together,”_ she said.

HON. TJABANE’S CALL TO ACTION

Hon. Tjabane urged the following:

1. Parents and Guardians: To monitor, guide and discipline children with love. Report any suspicious behavior early instead of protecting offenders.

2. Community Policing Committees (CPCs): To be revived and strengthened in every village within Stadium Area. Crime prevention is everyone’s duty.

3. Youth: To use their energy positively through sports, skills development, and community projects instead of drugs and crime.

4. Businesses and Liquor Outlets: To comply with operating hours and not sell to minors, as this contributes to crime.

_“With a positive attitude and unity, together we can make a change in the lives of our youth. We can build healthy and prosperous future leaders,”_ Hon. Tjabane stressed.

PARTNERSHIPS FOR SAFETY

Hon. Tjabane pledged to work closely with:

- Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS)

- Community Policing Committees

- Local Chiefs and Councilors

- Schools and Churches

to ensure regular awareness campaigns, youth sporting codes, and support for victims of crime.

MESSAGE TO STADIUM AREA

_“Pitso Ground, our streets, and our homes must be safe for our children. Let us stop pointing fingers and start working together. If you see something, say something. If you can prevent crime, do it. A safe Stadium Area is our shared responsibility,”_ Hon. Tjabane concluded.

The Office of Hon. Tjabane will be rolling out crime prevention campaigns in all 10 branches of Stadium Area this quarter.
